Short Breaks and Parent Participation
Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC): Better support for families, was launched in May 2007. Parents in Touch have been working with the London Borough of Hounslow to implement this programme of support. Our part in the process has been to increase parent participation with the services that make up Children's Services - education, health and social care. During February and March 2009 we arranged a series of events and workshops that we believed to be of benefit to parents and carers of disabled children in Hounslow during which we raised awareness of the new funding for Short Breaks and the requirement to take into account the views of parents, carers and disabled children. Hounslow's Short Breaks Plan was finalised on 31 March 09.

The next stage in the process was to develop a further series of events to gather young people's views as well as their parents. More ideas are always welcome and if you are a parent or carer in Hounslow wishing to have their views heard please do not hesitate to contact us - details on our home page.
Further information on Short Breaks can be found on the Together for Disabled Children website.
